This week I get to help a company build its first budget in a long time.
Seventeen years of running on instinct. Some of it good instinct. But without a benchmark, results are just results.
The work
- Model historical performance
- Build 2027 benchmarks from reliable industry outlooks
- Map seasonality from the data they already have
- Produce a budget that stretches the team and stays attainable
The real deliverable
The budget is not the deliverable. The conversations are. Ownership, department leads, team members, all looking at the same number and asking the same question: are we where we should be?
Without an expectation, complacency wins by default. No one decides it. It just happens.
A budget gives people something to reach for. And when they miss, something to learn from.
Running without a benchmark?
If your business has been running on instinct, book a free 30-minute Direction Session or tell me what you’re dealing with. I’d like to talk.
FREE TOOL
Labor is the line that drifts first.
The free Overtime Early-Warning tool flags anyone heading past 40 hours by mid-week, so a miss is a decision, not a surprise. One Excel file. No software.
